Purchase College, SUNY located about 30 miles north of Manhattan in Westchester County, the campus celebrates individuality, diversity, and creativity as we encourage students to Think Wide Open, seeks an Executive Director of Marketing and Communication. The Executive Director should be creative, analytical, and a strategic thinker to raise its brand profile to the next level. Through the development and implementation of comprehensive plans for brand advancement, the successful candidate will develop strong working relationships with key constituents from sectors across the college and in the community to expand the college’s visibility locally and globally and make the case for a Purchase education to its essential audiences.



Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree strongly preferred Ten plus years of progressive experience in marketing and communications A broad understanding of the issues and trends that affect public higher education Experience in higher education or other not-for-profit sector preferred Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and evaluate a comprehensive communications or marketing program Extensive experience in leading successful comprehensive communication initiatives Ability to define goals and objectives and measure progress towards communications goals Demonstrated understanding of developing and launching a brand with the support of multiple campus partners and constituencies Experience with crisis communications and reputational crisis.

Highly effective organizational skills, with the ability to proactively manage the ongoing big picture while reactively managing daily demands Ability to prioritize resources effectively, including developing and managing departmental budget Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and foster open communication and teamwork Experience working effectively with diverse groups Excellent problem solving skills, including the ability to create and implement structures and frameworks that maximize organizational efficiency Knowledge of or appreciation of the arts is a plus Ability to work evenings and weekends and be on-call 24/7 for crisis situations
