Public Relations Specialist, SUNY Buffalo State

The College Relations Office at SUNY Buffalo State seeks candidates for the position of Public Relations Specialist.

The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for developing, researching, writing, and editing content—for both internal and external audiences—that advances the college and supports strategic initiatives. As a member of the College Relations Office and reporting to the Public Relations Director, the PR Specialist will:
—Contribute stories and press releases to Buffalo State’s News and Events site and associated e-newsletters;
—Assist with media relations duties, including responding to media inquiries and proactively pitching stories to local, regional, and national outlets;
—Oversee the college’s student hometown news program;
—Report on, pitch, and promote faculty research;
—Develop stories and content to support other communications channels, including, but not limited to: the college’s magazine, 1300 Elmwood; social media; and admissions/recruitment materials.

Required Qualifications:

—Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communication, public relations, or related field;
—Full-time professional writing experience in an educational, nonprofit, or newsroom environment;
—Demonstrated media relations experience;
—Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment;
—Proven experience following a writing style guide, such as the Associated Press Stylebook or the Chicago Manual of Style.

Preferred Qualifications:

—Master’s degree in journalism, English, communication, public relations, or related field;
—Full-time experience in a marketing/communication office at an institution of higher education.
