Was it the beach volleyball, the exceptional plenary speakers or the LIVE ON LONG ISLAND feeling that encouraged so many SUNYCUADERS to proclaim the 2013 Annual Educational Conference such a big hit? This was the first SUNYCUAD conference on Long Island and only the second conference held downstate since FIT hosted in 2008.
After setting a goal of 125 registrants for the conference, the planning committee was pleasantly surprised when registration reached 215. With more than 25 sessions offered, participants had much to choose from in terms of media training, website development, video production, how to measure return on marketing investment, campus signage, and social media.
New York Times reporter David Pogue delivered the conference keynote. Columbia University’s Chief Digital Officer Sree Sreenivasan (soon-to-be chief digital officer for the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and Michael Bierut, noted graphic designer, design critic and educator, provided excellent plenary sessions. SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher inspired a packed breakfast crowd.
During the conference, we also had the privilege and pleasure of honoring a number of individuals and institutions within the SUNY system for outstanding service and professional accomplishment.
We presented the 2013 Educational Achievement Award to Dr. Joyce F. Brown, president of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), for her considerable contributions to education over her long and distinguished career. Former SUNYCUAD board member Cory S. Jacobs was inducted into the Hall of Fame. In addition, 57 Awards for Excellence were presented in 19 categories.
