Several colleagues from SUNY campuses and chief advancement officers attended the SUNYCUAD Winter Workshop on January 19, Managing Up, Down and Across, presented by Laura Goodwin, Vice President, The Osborne Group. The focus of the workshop was a timely topic: building practical skills to thrive in a tough economy. According to Ms. Goodwin, this economy demands that, from top to bottom, we all become more and more “generalists,” stepping up as is needed, as single-purpose, specialized jobs become a luxury. One of the results is the strong drive toward increased collaboration and the need to flex management style and skills.
Following the workshop, SUNYCUAD winter workshop participants joined colleagues from the SUNY Chief Advancement Officers for a lunch session and workshop on Strategic Board Development as it Relates to Fundraising, led by George Nehme, Senior VP for Client Relations, Innovative Resources Group. Given the importance of boards relative to all roles within the advancement profession, this session provided an important professional development opportunity for the SUNYCUAD membership. SUNYCUAD co-sponsored the event.
